You may be a candidate for liposculpture if you have excess subcutaneous fat that is resistant to diet and exercise or you wish to change the contours of your body. Commonly involved areas are the front part of the neck (under the chin), upper arms and armpits, male chest/breasts, trunk, abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inner knees, calves, and ankles. A better result is possible if you are near normal weight and desire permanent contour changes.
Liposculpture is not a weight loss technique.
The procedure is performed using small suction tubes (cannulas) that are inserted through very short incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits, and excess fat is removed.
You will go home wearing a compression garment covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for about a month as it helps reduce swelling and helps you achieve the final result more quickly. Once pain and soreness decrease, it is frequently more comfortable to wear Lycra or spandex exercise pants. Light activities can usually be in five to seven days. Bruising and swelling generally fade in two weeks to a month. The final result takes shape over two to three months. Some patients have liposculpture in conjunction with tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast reduction, breast lift, breast augmentation, thigh lift, or buttock lift.

You may wish to consider a tummy tuck if you have loose or sagging abdominal wall skin, which frequently occurs after multiple pregnancies or prior surgery, and are unable to tighten the abdomen with exercise. A tummy tuck is intended to give you a smoother flatter abdomen.
Tummy tucks are categorized as "mini", "modified", "standard", or "extended". A mini-abdominoplasty tightens the lower abdominal wall skin only and results in the shortest scar. A modified abdominoplasty is appropriate under conditions where just the muscle wall or just the abdominal skin requires repair. A standard abdominoplasty tightens all of the abdominal wall skin and muscles and results in a standard scar which is generally just above the pubic hair extending from hip bone to hip bone. An extended abdominoplasty tightens the abdomen and the flanks or sides and results in the longest scar, extending around the flanks onto the lower back.
Abdominoplasty can be one of the more uncomfortable plastic surgery procedures and probably requires a more time-consuming and limiting recovery. One to three days of hospitalization or skilled nursing care or assistance at home is usually indicated. You will be encouraged to be moving and walking regularly within one or two days. Light activity is comfortable in ten 20 days. You should allow at least ten days to two weeks off work. Sports will not be comfortable for about six weeks. Liposculpture is often performed in conjunction with a tummy tuck.
